Pinehurst, on a site overlooking the Durbanville Hills and the Simonsberg, is one of Garden Cities’ most beautiful developments, with broad, landscaped boulevards, open spaces, profuse vegetation, and a high level of luxury at affordable prices.
Its earlier stages, both gated villages, Summerwood and Longwood, consisted of 350 and 280 separate title houses respectively. All have been sold and occupied. Wild Peach, a sectional title project, quickly sold out as did a further 100 group houses outside of the gated villages. Having completed the construction and sale of over 1 000 homes in the first two stages of Pinehurst, Garden Cities also built two group housing projects, Drie Bergen and Donkervliet, totalling 70 houses, and is now making swift progress on the third of its gated villages, the 600-house Oakwood.
The access-controlled Oakwood village has larger than usual houses selling for between R1.2 million and R2.2 million. The first phase of 250 homes is already sold out.
Garden Cities has also introduced a new category of homes at Albury, which answers the need for quality homes under R1 million. The 71 houses are in a village surrounded by 2.1metre walls or palisade fencing, topped by 50cm of electric fencing. Access is monitored by a guard who is in direct contact with a security response unit.
Like all the phases of this northern areas development, and Garden Cities projects throughout the Peninsula, landscaping is a major feature at Oakwood. The site is being planted with groves of more than 2 000 olive trees, the fruit of which will eventually be harvested. In addition, over 1.5km rows of rose bushes, cypress trees, agapanthus and lavender have been planted. The beautiful access boulevard has fountains at each end and is marked by landscaped traffic circles along its course.
